I cannot stress enough the importance of monitoring your blood sugar levels. Think of it as your personal dashboard-it helps you understand how your body responds to food, physical activity, stress, and medications.
Checking blood sugar at home is simple with a glucometer or continuous glucose monitor.

• Your doctor will guide you on how often to test.

• Typical times to test sugars include before meals, two hours after eating, or before and after exercise.

• If your sugars are largely stable on oral medications then twice a week sugar checking is adequate however if you’re on insulin and have larger variation in blood glucose levels then a more frequent glucose monitoring is required.

• CGM is continuous glucose monitoring device that is easily applied over the forearm and regularly tracks your blood glucose for 2 weeks at a time. In some cases it can be useful.

• Keep a log of your readings-it’s not just numbers, it’s insight. Share this data with your doctor during your consecutive visits, to fine-tune your treatment plan.

• Remember, this routine can prevent serious complications down the road.

Stay proactive-“your health is worth it!”
